I don't really know how to put into words how inspiring and amazing Nikuru and her classes are, you have made working out fun, something that i thought was impossible! Zumba is the highlight of my day and i can't miss it for anything. After each class I'm always left on a buzz and can't help but sing and dance the rest of the day! I started my weight loss journey back in September 2010 and started with 1 of Nikuru’s Zumba classes each week, I slowly lost the kilos. I am now doing at least 4 of her classes every week and have gone from size 14 to a size 10 and feel fantastic!
The atmosphere is great, the music is really catchy (you'll be singing it in the car) and the time goes so quickly that it doesn't feel like a workout, but you will sweat like crazy, be prepared.
I tried lots of different Zumba classes in Christchurch but kept coming back to Nikuru and her easy to follow style. I’ve met some awesome people and highly recommend you get along to a class, you won’t regret it.

NIkuru what can i say except you are my inspiration!!! I love coming to your classes you have so much energy and pizazz and make exercising so much fun. I have been coming to your classes since september last year and zumba has become part of my weekly must do's... I feel like something is missing if i miss a class... I have been overweight since I was a teenager. In 2008 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and got depressed and started to get bigger through eating badly and being inactive. In December 2009 I was told that if I didn't do something about my weight, my MS would have me in a wheelchair within 18 months. My MS WAS causing me to have less and less control over my movements and coordination and also dulling sensations in my extremities. Since starting Zumba with Nikuru my coordination, control and feeling have all improved heaps.
January 2010 I was weighing 118kg and joined a gym. I was assigned a trainer, who is very good, who put me on a strict exercise and nutritional plan to help with weight loss. The weight started to come down. Once I had been active in the gym for about a month I started doing Zumba with Nikuru and the weight started to fall off at a much faster rate. 8 months later I have lost over 23kg and I am a much happier person because of the journey I have begun. In october 2010 I am doing the instructors workshop to become a Zumba instructor and Nikuru has offered her assistance and support in any way I need.
I have been to other Zumba classes but have not found anyone who has as much Zumba in them as Nikuru has in her. Nikuru is very fit and her classes are a lot of fun. I have recommended Nikuru's classes to people who had been going to other Zumba classes and they have also started coming to Nikuru's classes as they are a lot more fun than the ones they had been going to.
I feel that I need to do a combination of strength training and cardio to get maximum results and Zumba with Nikuru is the funnest cardio I have found. Nikuru is always smiling, happy, full of energy and Zumba Love.
My weight when I started on this path was 89.0kg. I am now 73.5kg, lighter by over 15kg. I am more motivated to do things and my level of fitness has gone up so I no longer get tired as much from doing physical activities. These results are 4.5 months of doing Zumba.
I feel that if I had not gone to Zumba with Nikuru, I would still be struggling to lose the weight and gain fitness.
I started going to the gym in January 2010 to tone up and get some muscle definition. In February I had a personal training session with one of the gyms personal trainers and he told me I was overweight for my age and height, he suggested that I look at losing some weight as well. I started then to try and lose weight going to the gym and doing weights and cardio exercises nearly everyday of the week to have no noticable results with weight loss. My trainer thought that I wasn't commited to losing weight. Later in February I was asked to go to a Zumba class out at Kaiapoi, where Nikuru is the Zumba Instructor, I reluctantly went. After that first visit to Zumba I was hooked and have been as often as I can go since then, at least 3 times per week. With going to Zumba my weight started to fall off very quickly and I have stopped going to the gym as often as I no longer need to go 5-6 times a week to see positive results. Since the staff at the gym have seen the results of the Zumba, they have started Zumba classes there too.
Since starting Zumba I have been to another instructors class and found it to be very slow compared to what I have been taught by Nikuru. Nikuru is always positive, happy and smiling she is also very fit and energetic, she is a great ambassador for Zumba.
